Module 9 Time-for-Me Planning

Committing to a better health plan

It is important to plan a healthy lifestyle for yourself every day. Executing a healthy lifestyle plan requires conscious decision making, planning and actions that will provide you with emotional wellbeing and your body with sufficient rest, nourishment and participation in your desired level of health promoting activities (remember the questionnaire you completed here (hyperlink). There are many ways that you can positively influence your own health.

Here are some tips for getting started on a better health plan:

  • Start slow and build up gradually
  • Set achievable goals
  • Make it fun
  • Make it part of your routine and your families routine
  • Put it on paper (download the worksheets or keep a journal or diary)
  • Make it public in the family to change family habits and expectations about your time and health
  • Enlist a friend to give and receive support
  • Reward yourself
  • Be flexible
  • Be patient
  • Celebrate every positive change

Other resources that are available include videos of mothers who attended the face to face HMHF workshops and made changes over long periods. The video’s appear at the start of the website. Here are the HMHF ambassador mothers and their stories of change:
